As you alluded to above, managed to get the cover off and promptly found the batteries. I was shocked there was not a replaceable battery pack of some sort, or a standard battery, given the design and the fact that NiCads (weaker w/memory) were used and not even Li-Ion.However, I am also sure we are both intelligent enough to know why, but that is NOT why I am here. With some luck, I was able to locate the batteries and soldered the new batteries using the same as a PC Motherboard [I build custom computers and repair as a hobby]. Using AutoCAD v.17, I modified the access to the Kone, making it easier to get to the batteries, of which I made an additional new battery pack, along with instructions to my wife that neither of us put the Kone back into the charging base till the batteries were completely drained, therefore setting the battery memory to get longer life out of a pack.

The 4 tabs are where they appear they might be; the 4 places you can get at around the rim of the cover, looking straight down on the two screws you can get.
