I'm met by alot of confusion and contredition about Longhorn builds. Basically I'm looking for a longhorn build that is the most visual-effects and has a really good look about it.

I've read past articles saying 'Build 4015' and 'Build 4066', but after reading further down the post, it seemed to contredict itself by saying 'Build 3683' is good. I'm just wondering what the most 'avalon-based features' and various other cool effects/visuals in 1 particular build. But none from the 5xxx generation, even though 5048 had awesome DWM effects I have played around with 4074, 5048 & 5112 builds only. And after seeing all the 3xxx and 4xxx builds, i got a bit overwhelmed by trying to pick one.

Any recommendations for a good 'eye-candy' build of longhorn? Another best Longhorn thread. No one Longhorn build has all the 'effects' - Build 4074 is the most complete really, but you've already tried that. Ultimately, I suspect if you pick any build you'll be disappointed. The promise far exceeded the reality with Longhorn, but to explore Longhorn with such an attitude would be missing the point. Try them all. Or at least 3718, 4039/4042 and 4066.

Try them all. Or at least 3718, 4039/4042 and 4066.

Thanks for the advice, I don't really know a heck of alot about the Longhorn builds, that's what is got me quite interested in them. There seems to be alot of mystery about Longhorn, I have played around with the likes of Windows 8 alphas, 7850, 7929, 7989 etc etc. But they aren't as interesting as Longhorn, it seems as though Longhorn was/is like nothing anything else. Hmm, this is hard, a lot of Longhorn builds are heavily bug-ridden, aren't they. 4074 is technically the most complete, with avalon-like effects and all that jazz, though personal taste has to go to the first build after the reset - 5048.
